Volunteer
Are you excited about our community tool library and want to get involved? We are a volunteer-driven nonprofit and are always seeking volunteers to help out in the areas listed below.
Become a Tool LibrarianRight now our major volunteer need is tool librarians to staff our library. Shifts start 15 minutes before opening and end 15 minutes after closing. Tool librarians are the heart of the ToolBox Project—they lend tools to neighbors for home, garden, and other do-it-yourself projects.
As a tool librarian you'll help check in and check out tools, keep the shop organized and attractive, and make sure our tool inventory is safe and ready for the next borrowers. Tool library shifts are fun and fly by. You don't need to be a tool expert for this position, but you'll certainly end up learning a lot about tools. There are always at least two library volunteers on site to run the shop. If you're a high school student seeking community service hours, talk with us about becoming a tool librarian. |

Other Volunteer Opportunities
It takes a team of dedicated tool librarians and many other friends to grow this unique community resource. Here are some ways you can join our team.
Landscape and garden
Do you love to garden? We are seeking volunteer coordinators to help maintain the rain garden in front of the tool library. Tasks include periodic weeding, seasonal watering, some planting, coordinating garden work parties, and landscaping design and build.
Outreach and communications
Help us spread the word about the ToolBox Project. Have a great idea? We're looking for community-minded folks with great ideas about how we can find new members, volunteers, and community partners.
Fundraising and grant writing
Do you have the golden touch? We're looking for volunteers with experience and enthusiasm for coordinating events and other development activities. If you have grant writing experience, we'd love to talk with you about writing grants or providing feedback on grant applications.
Tool repair and maintenance
Have you ever brought a tool back to life? We need some folks who want to fix and perform regular maintenance on our tool inventory.
Special events and work parties
We occasionally have special events at the tool library for which we need lots of volunteers, from garden work parties to building structures like our pergola on the library patio. Helping out at a work party is a great way to meet others in the ToolBox community and get involved if you aren't able to commit to regular sessions or a longer term project.
Committees
We currently have three committees that provide leadership and support the ToolBox Project's programming: Communication and Outreach, Fundraising, and Library Operations. If you're interested in honing your skills in any of these areas, we'd love to hear from you.
