As a ToolBox Project member, you can borrow the tools you need!
On this page, existing members can renew their membership. To become a new member, visit Membership.
To renew your membership:
Please allow up to one week for your membership to be renewed.
- Either make an optional donation or contact us to request renewal without a donation.
- Accept the new Membership Liability Waiver and Tool Use Policy in either English or Spanish (effective May 1, 2023). You can do this either when you complete your membership application online or in person. Read instructions for how to accept it.

Suggested Donation Sliding Scale
We suggest an annual donation as a membership contribution. The amount is based on self-identified household income levels (see chart below). Membership contributions are recommended but not required. We won't turn away anyone for whom making a contribution is a hardship. We never track or record household income levels. We accept cash, credit or debit cards, check, or online via PayPal. With PayPal, we now offer an option for automatic recurring monthly donations.

Who can join the ToolBox Project?
All Lane County residents over the age of 18 are welcome to become ToolBox Project members.
What kinds of tools does the ToolBox Project have, and how long can I keep them?
The ToolBox Project carries a wide range of hand and power tools for building and garden projects ranging from hammers to table saws and trowels to post-hole diggers. You'll find our full collection under Find Tools. You can borrow our tools for one week, and can often renew them.
How will I know which tools are available?
You can view which tools are available and which ones are checked out under Find Tools.
Can I reserve tools?
Yes! To do so, you must take the following actions.
Until then, you can make a request to reserve tools by email to [email protected], or by text or voice to 541-838-0125.
After you have completed those steps, you can make reservations online yourself through Find Tools. You can learn how to reserve tools in a short video demonstration.
How much does it cost to join?
The ToolBox Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and to keep it running, we recommend an annual donation based on household income level. Membership donations are recommended but not required. We won't turn away anyone for whom making a donation is a hardship. We accept cash, credit and debit cards, checks, and online payments via PayPal. Just like the public library, each individual borrower must obtain their own membership. For work parties or group events, each and every person using our tools must sign a liability waiver.

Borrowing fees help us maintain and repair the tools we share, and range from $0-$10 per tool per week. The majority of hand tools have $0 borrowing fees, while power tools range from $3-$10 per tool per week, depending on the tool. Visit Find Tools to see individual tools and prices. If you return a tool after its due date, you will pay a late fee starting at $0.25/day or higher, depending on the tool.

Our aim is to keep the ToolBox Project a financially self-sustaining 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We use membership donations and borrowing and late fees collected to run our organization and buy and maintain our tools.
